Robinson Stanton House Museum

The Benton County Historical Society recently added the historic Robinson-Stanton House to it’s collection of historical artifacts. The original 1873 granite home was constructed from a nearby Sauk Rapids quarry. Leonard Robinson was a leading quarryman in the area. He opened the second major quarry in Sauk Rapids in 1871 - providing stone for numerous railroad bridges and several commercial and public structures including the Iowa State Capitol. His quarry folded in 1876 in the aftermath of the mid 1870’s financial panic. Since then, the residence transitioned into an elderly care and boarding.

Katie Kangas of Pasque Architecture was a great investment for our Benton County Historical Society museum project in Sauk Rapids, MN. Katie worked extremely well with our director in the creative and logistic processes of working with the architecture and spirit of our 150 year old National Historic Registry house. Goals were exceeded in planning and implementation of turning this space into a history museum and we look forward to working with Pasque Architecture in the future of this project.
